About

MAKE Literary Productions, NFP supports, promotes, and engages contemporary writers, artists, and audiences through publishing, multidisciplinary arts events, and international cultural exchange between the US and Mexico.

MAKE publishes the annual print literary magazine MAKE. The 18th and final print issue, “Mad Science,” was released in October 2019. MAKE is currently transitioning to a fully online publication on this site. For more on how MAKE begat MAKE, click here.

MAKE also produces the international Lit & Luz Festival of Language, Literature and Art. With a focus on collaboration, each Lit & Luz Fest is themed and in two parts: the first takes place in Chicago in the fall, followed by a Mexico City festival in the early spring.

In addition to these two main programs, MAKE is proud to co-produce events such as the Exquisite Crawl with Homeroom Chicago, along with numerous other live, online, and off-the-grid programs that support the intersections of literature and other artistic disciplines, along with the artists who produce them.

MAKE Literary Productions is partially supported by The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation, The Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelly Foundation, the Illinois Arts Council, DCASE, Illinois Humanitities, Art Works Fund for Organizational Development, the National Endowment for the Arts, and individual contributors.

Founded in 2004 by Ramsin Canon, Sarah Dodson, and Mike Zapata.

We have a sister site for our main program, the Lit & Luz Festival of Language, Literature, and Art: LITLUZ.ORG
